immigration.
The Republicans turned off a lot of Hispanic voters in 2012. National Republican strategists warn that catering to the most hard-line
voters on immigration in the nominating contest will hurt the party in
the general election, as it did the 2012 nominee, when Mitt Romney, endorsed “self-deportation” for illegal immigrants and attracted
historically low Latino support.
Even though some Republicans side with Donald Trump on immigration, some say the Republicans should try to distance themselves from Trump in order to gain the Latino vote. But others believe that by not saying anything at all will hurt the Republicans.
