President Obama Mocks the 2016 GOPs Debate

President Barack Obama tore into Republican presidential candidates Monday night at a Democratic fundraising event in New York, saying their complaints about CNBC's debate moderation aren't an encouraging preview for their governing abilities.  Personally, I agree with President Obama. Donald Trump Paints Republicans Into Corner With Hispanics

Mr. Trump’s plan for mass deportations — “They have to go,” he said — which is supported by a sizable minority of Republican voters nationwide, has encouraged rivals to similarly push the subject on immigration.

The Republicans turned off a lot of Hispanic voters in 2012.  National Republican strategists warn that catering to the most hard-line voters on immigration in the nominating contest will hurt the party in the general election, as it did the 2012 nominee, when Mitt Romney, endorsed “self-deportation” for illegal immigrants and attracted historically low Latino support.

Even though some Republicans side with Donald Trump on immigration, some say the Republicans should try to distance themselves from Trump in order to gain the Latino vote.  But others believe that by not saying anything at all will hurt the Republicans.  Read the article at the link below and let me know whether the Republicans should join in Trumps' rant on immigration or not?

“The television news media in America; the dumbing down of a nation!”

The mass media is dumbing down the news.  I have often questioned where was the rest of the story.  All of the networked seem to skim just the top of the story without providing the meat.  If there is a story I want to know additional information about, I often had to result to the Internet.  I often questioned why this was being done.  Did they think American were not intellectual enough to grasp the storyline?  Or is it that they do not know have the meat of the story themselves due to a lack of investigative skills.  They provide just enough information to make use turn our head, but leave use wanting more.  I found an article on Daily Kos.  The name of the article is “The television news media in America; the dumbing down of a nation!”  The article speaks about how the big corporations, such as General Electric, own the news broadcasting companies, such as CNBC, NBC and MSNBC. They are not interested in reporting the news. From the article and comments, I am not the only that is feeling cheated after viewing the news on television.

Politics and Mass Media

Most Americans have a cellphone and a computer.  We also have access to hundreds if not thousand of cable channels in addition to radio.  In addition their are million of bloggers and Web Sites willing to give us their opinion.  I personally find all of this information and mass media invasive and annoying at time.  However, political communication has extended to such mediums as Twitter, YouTube and many more.  Does this extension of mass media influence our political view or just overwhelm us?
